A Heartfelt Interview With Albus Dumbledore
by Claire Harper

I took time out of my busy, busy week to travel across the world to Hogwarts. Upon my arrival I was kindly greeted by Professor Longbottom, the new Herbology teacher, at the school. He gave me a short tour of the greenhouses, then up to the Headmaster’s office where the late Professor Dumbledore hung.

I sat were Harry Potter, and countless other students, once sat while being pierced by those blue eyes.

I put my notebook down and eased back in my chair for a chat with what was left of the most brilliant, knowing, able and powerful wizards that had lived.

Me: Good evening professor! How are you this evening?

Professor Dumbledore: Very well, thank you, and yourself?

M: Good, very excited to start the interview.

Pro. D: Good, good. Let the show begin.

M: Well, I like to start from the beginning of the story, which is why I will ask you to explain your relationship with your brother.

Pro. D: Ahh my dear, such a deep question … Do you wish to know about it in the present, or past?

M: Both, but let us start with the past.

Pro. D: As I’m sure you have read in Miss. Skeeter’s publications my brother and I had a murky past together, I would say we rather resented each other. However now that we are older, I believe we put a small portion of out differences aside, and are at least now civil with one another. Aberforth has taken it upon himself to visit me here in my frame, and I do believe that after the battle at the school, he has grown warmer to me.

M: Dead or alive I’m glad your relationship is beginning to heal.
Now I’m going to ask a question many of my readers are wondering, How old are you?

Pro. D: *chuckles* I am currently 128.

M: … Well, you certainly lived a full life.

Pro. D: I certainly did.

M: Now the next question I’m sure you heard about in the muggle media. Tell me about your sexual relationships.

Pro. D: Ahh... Well, to be honest, I have only ever had one partner, that will to this day only be Gellert. It was alas but a summer love; I am now over it, but I shall always remember.

M: So, you are... gay?

Pro. D: Yes.

M: Well I’m glad we got that cleared up! Now, is their anything you wish you said to Harry before you passed?

Pro. D: There is so much I wish I could have told Harry. I think I could have prepared him so much better if I just had had a few more months with him, I wish I could have told him how much he means to me, and I wish I could have explained my shameful past to him so he did not have to bear that alone when he discovered it.

M: Are you happy with his outcome?
Pro. D: Of course! I will always be proud of Harry! He always succeeds in his endeavors, and I could never be disappointed in him.

M: Well that’s very sweet, sir. Would you consider Harry a grandson, a friend, a student?

Pro. D: A son, Harry is my son. If I even had a child I could only hope they could measure up to him. I know I am much older then him, but he is much wiser then me in many ways.

M: Did you believe in him to finish Lord Voldemort?

Pro. D: Yes I did. But I shall not hide the fact that I was doubtful that he wouldn't be sucked in, like me, to the Hallows, and forget about destroying Lord Voldemort.

M: Why did you lead him to the Hallows? If you thought he might be distracted, why not lead him to them later, after he finished He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named?

Pro. D: Now I think on it, it was foolish, but I think I just wanted to test him, make sure he was stronger then me, make sure he had what it takes, and make sure we would not succumb to weakness for power, like me.

M: And how did you plan this all out? How could you be sure he would figure everything out? How could you be sure you had laid it out before him well enough?

Pro. D: Firstly ‘how did I plan it out?’ Well not to sound conceited, but they don’t call me he cleverest wizard alive for nothing. I’ve always been a schemer. Secondly I could not be sure, one can never be completely sure, but I had faith that Harry would do the right thing; that is good enough for me. And thirdly, again I could not be sure.

M: Well sir it was a pleasure speaking with you. I do think we have given the muggle world a taste of magic, and I hope we can speak again.

Pro. D: My dear, the pleasure was all mine.

And on that note I take my leave notebook, and quill in hand, out of his office, out of Hogwarts, out.
