A Non-Harry Potter Fan’s View on Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince: an Interview
by Emilie
About a week ago, my grandmother took me to go see the IMAX version of Half-Blood Prince. Now, for so background information: my grandmother doesn’t like fantasy and has never read or seen Harry Potter. I felt a bit bad that she went with me, but there was no one else to drive me and she didn’t feel like spending two and a half hours in the parking lot, so she saw it. However, I decided that this would be a good chance to get a non-Harry Potter fan’s view on the movie. So, I asked her a few questions…
Q: Did you like it?
A: Yes, very much
Q: Do you want to share any initial reactions of the movie?
A: It was confusing because I had never read the books or seen the movies. I couldn’t figure out who was who and if they were good or evil. Also, it was a lot less violent than I expected, although I found that it was pretty somber for a PG movie.
Q: What do you think the main theme of the story was?
A: Good versus evil
Q: Did you find that Dumbledore’s death was sad?
A: Actually, it took me a while to realize that he was dead. At the time I didn’t know that Avada Kedavra was the killing curse, and I was also under the impression that Snape was good. Once I figured out he was dead, it wasn’t sad, I was just trying to figure out how he died.
Q: Did you find the movie to be funny?
A: Certain scenes were funny. Ron seemed immature compared to Harry, and that added to the humor.
Q: Did you find that there were good actors in the movie?
A: Yes, especially the actors who played Harry and Snape.
Q: What were your favorite scenes?
A: The Quidditch scenes were amazing. It was impressing to see them all on the brooms so high in the air. The ending was also pretty good.
Q: Does seeing this movie make you want to see the others?
A: I would willingly see the next one, just to know how it ends. If the opportunity arises, I might watch the others, but don’t think I’ll become a Harry Potter fan. I don’t like fantasy.
Q: Do you think that this movie might be Oscar-worthy?
A: No. The movie wasn’t bad, but for an Oscar, a movie should be more character driven.
Q: Did you like the soundtrack?
A: Yes, a lot. There were certain pieces of music that were really good.
Q: If you were to rate the movie on a scale of 1-5, 1 being the worst and 5 being the best, what would you give it?
A: Probably a 4.
