Ridiculous Shippers: Lost Relationships
By Kelsi Smith
Let’s talk: about the ridiculous shippers. Everyone has a (relation)ship they support. Most have crashed and burned, sinking deeper into the sea than the Titanic. But, a fortunate few survived the seven books. I am going to tell you about all of them. I think we will all see light once we realize that some things NEVER happen.
Harry/Draco/any other boy: I am not against gay people. I’m not against their relationship rights. And, I have to admit, the idea is quite tempting. However, in several of JKR’s Harry Potter books, she shows Harry's interest in girls. Never once did he even have a glimpse of thought about Draco, or any other boy, in a sexual way. He never had any appeal to boys in any other way than friendship. This ship was the first to burn.
Neville/Ginny: The fourth movie of Harry Potter promoted this ship at the Yule Ball. This was an easy one to believe. What girl wouldn’t want to be with sweet Neville? But, all hopes of a Neville/Ginny were killed in book six. Harry gets Ginny. If you didn’t notice, they had some kids, and were married. Learn, people! Neville and Ginny were only together the once, and that was for one night.
Hermione/Ron: JKR didn’t believe this would happen herself. But, miracle of miracles, this ship sailed. I wasn’t exactly a supporter, but I find now they fit together well. Opposites attract, as always.
Luna/Harry: Though this would have been a very sweet couple, this doesn’t work either. I was a little sad about this, but life goes on. I was on the Luna/Harry ship, and I crashed with the rest of `em. In the end, there is no mention of Luna's relationship, so Neville/Luna shippers, live on!
Neville/Luna: The last note brings us to my last on the list. Though I could have gone on forever, I felt this was a good place to stop. Neville and Luna. Luna and Neville. A wonderful pair, whose ship might still sail. Though our series is over, no mention is made on either person's relationship. This means they may, or may not, be together. I do not consider the love between these two misfits ridiculous. I hope in the deepest part of my Harry Potter heart that they live on.
Many more great ships could have been listed, as I said before. I felt that these were the most important to show. I hope you all learned from my opinions, and I bid you happy shipping.
