Time to Say Goodbye
by Ann Marie

“There were a few more cries of shock as a shower of arrows soared through the air, but they fell far short of the crowd. It was, Harry knew, the centaurs’ tribute: He saw them turn tail and disappear back into the cool trees. Likewise, the mere people sank slowly back into the green water and were lost from view.”

Four years later and I still can’t read that without crying. Lord Voldemort has risen to power, very quickly and possibly higher than before, and now we lose our phoenix, the man with all the answers. We’ve all survived that heartbreaking ending, and somehow we all continued with aching hearts in hopes that Harry and Ginny would one day be together again. The Deathly Hallows eased our pain, but now Warner Brothers is eager to rip out our hearts again- I was just mending, too. After two long years, our wait is up. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is here, and for the lucky few who got to go to local premiers, I was told to be nice to you. *Checks around shoulders casts Muffliato!* I hate you all. If only the D.A. hadn’t destroyed all the Time Turners! Then I could’ve been two places at once! But back to my point, the wait is over.

All the press attention has been on the breaking bridge, the young love, and the return of the greatest sport in the world- Quidditch! Not once, not even from the most hard core HP fans, have a heard a word about the old, white beard, half-moon glasses, twinkling blue eyes, crooked nosed genius that is responsible for all the good stuff this year! What about Dumbledore? The movie completely erases him after his death, and words cannot describe my anger. I somewhat understand why they did that. The script was written before DH. In the original script, Harry took Dumbledore’s wand- this is kind of shown at the end of HBP movie in the Headmaster’s office! It was all filmed and done, and then DH was released. Now, this is my idea, but maybe instead of retaping that, the director and all decided to cut it out. BAD CHOICE! With a lack of funeral, HP fans need to relive the perfect one JK wrote.

His funeral was very formal, and I couldn’t agree more with Harry’s memory of him: “Nitwit,” “oddment,” “blubber,” and “tweak.” He wouldn’t want a teary eulogy, so he’ll get the strangest comparison the world could think of! How about Michael Jackson?

Let’s think about this. Both died unexpectedly and, to the public world, the details of death were … iffy, I guess? They definitely brought up a lot of questions we needed to rethink. Their mysterious pasts were immediately shown to the public - thank you Rita Skeeter! - and whether or not all the facts are true, no one will ever know. And what brought this bizarre similarity to mind was the actual funerals. Both were public and brought in people around the world. From government figures to that dorky student/ fan that never spoke to their idol, everyone was there. Both wished to be laid to rest at their homes, and from what I understand of the current MJ news, they both can rest at peacefully at home.

Albus Dumbledore and Michael Jackson both achieved things the world never though possible. Dumbledore discovered twelve uses for dragon’s blood, defeated his good friend Grindelwald from taking over the world, and discovered Voldemort’s darkest secrets, not to mention all the other problems he faced from home. Meanwhile, Jackson became the first African American star on MTV, sold record-setting albums, “Thriller” (need I say more?), helped thousands of children through charities, and became of “King of Pop.”

They had … shall we say, interesting past lives. MJ … well, we all know those stories; Dumbledore had a mentally ill / magically dangerous sister, a goat-loving brother who now runs a pub - with the goats - and his parents' reactions to his sister, which were just what Skeeter was looking for, so we know that’s no good. Then there was his past with Gindelwald and the fact that he was gay (that’s a whole other editorial! Not that there‘s anything wrong with that!). Still, do we devoted supporters love our idols less? No! So, Dumbledore, with the release of the sixth movie, it’s time to say goodbye. May Warner Brothers do an excellent job when you return in Harry’s head. Until then, “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”
