Posted by Tina on 07 Feb 2010 | Submit News
Categories: News , JK Rowling , Charity Auction , Fandom So far "Helping Hait Heal," a ground-roots project that many Harry Potter fans have come together for to help Haiti has raised $112,000 that will be donated to Partners in Health who are helping the nation rebuild. J.K. Rowling was hearing all the amazing things that fans have done for Haiti and she sent a message for all the fans. "To everyone who has helped raise such an incredible amount for the earthquake survivors in Haiti: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Like many others, I made a personal donation to the DEC shortly after the earthquake happened; but never did I expect such an amazing response from all of you. You cannot imagine how awed, moved and humbled I am to know that planes named Harry, Ron and Hermione are going to be flying off to help. I did not need this to remind me how extraordinary Harry’s fans are, but you keep giving me proofs. THANK YOU! - Jo" Keep helping Haiti heal by either donating what ever you can to the cause or by letting people know about the cause and having them donate. All the support everyone can do will help. |

Categories: News , Birthdays , Accio-Potter We want to wish Tyler Smith a very Happy Birthday. He has done a few editorials and characters' pages, and is a part of sevenawesomaps. Even though he's a fan of Harry Potter, he loves politics and hopes to be the future president of the United States. He's a great friend and staffer of the site. On a personal note, "I do declare" that he's the best friend and not related brother I ever had. I don't know who I would be today without him. I've had great skype chats with him and some of our friends from Accio-Potter, that I'll never forget. I'll be honored when he becomes President, and all of you should too, because we can all say we knew him first. I hope you have a great magical birthday, Tyler. Nicholas Hooper Talks About Creating The Soundrack
Posted by Tina on 31 Jan 2010 | Submit News
Categories: News , Interviews The Official Harry Potter Newsletter includes a interview with Half-Blood Prince composer Nicholas Hooper. He talks about his favorite songs to score. He also how long it takes to create a soundtrack, and other things as well. Q: What was the most difficult scene to score in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince? A: There were two that were particularly difficult. Firstly, was the scene where Snape makes the "Unbreakable Vow." It was a big and vitally important scene - central to the plot - but everyone was very quiet. The music had to almost not be there but build to support the making of the vow while Bellatrix whispered it. Very tricky. The other scene was Dumbledore lying dead in the courtyard. Writing music that communicates such sadness is very, very hard. I think the orchestra at the scoring felt it and I hope that that communicated itself to the audience. Already Excited About The Harry Potter Theme Park? USA Today Has A Magical Way To See It Early
Posted by Tina on 27 Jan 2010 | Submit News
Categories: News USA Today will give out a special bonus today. If you grab their paper today, you can receive a three-dimensional sneak peek at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort before it opens in Spring 2010. With this sneak peek in the newspaper, a computer and a webcam will help you see inside the theme park. You have to get a copy of the newspaper first. Then put the printed map in that newspaper in front of your webcam, and you can take a closer look at the entire area from all sides and angles through augmented-reality technology. Among the highlights: Hogwarts castle will appear. Hold the map closer to your webcamand explore Hogsmeade village. See where the Hogwarts Express has just arrived. Blow on your computer's microphone, and the banners on the map will wave. Additionally, the Associated Press mentioned this. The technology blends computer images and real-life environments to provide a tour of the 20-acre park from all angles. For example, holding the map closer to the webcam activates a close-up view of the magical town of Hogsmeade and the Hogwarts Express. Banners on the map flap in the breeze if the microphone is blown into. This sounds like something fans might want to pick up today. If anyone from Accio-Potter gets one we will update on the features and what we think of the special sneak peek. |

Julie Walters talks about Deathly Hallows
Posted by Rob on 27 Jan 2010 | Submit News
Categories: News , Interviews Julia Walters, the actress who plays Molly Weasley in the Harry Potter movies, recently spoke about Deathly Hallows in an interview about her new movie. The most interesting part of the quote is where she mentions Molly Weasley's duel with Bellatrix Lestrange: “It is back to Harry Potter. Mrs Weasley has a lot to do this time. I kill Helena Bonham Carter for a start and not many can say that. We have a bit of a wand contest, I can’t wait. It will be sad, though, because I’ve watched all of them all grow up. It will certainly leave a void." |

New Interview With David Heyman, Steve Kloves and Emma Watson
Posted by Rob on 23 Jan 2010 | Submit News
Categories: News , Emma Watson , Interviews Total Film Magazine has a new interview with Emma Watson, Steve Kloves, and David Heyman in their March 2010 issue. They talked about both parts of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. In the interview, Steve Kloves talked about why they split Deathly Hallows: "Ultimately everyone felt that, despite the challenges it would present, the split was the most sound creative decision," explains veteran screenwriter Steve Kloves. "It should allow us to stretch a bit with the characters and give them the proper send-off." David Heyman talks about the difference between the two parts of Deathly Hallows: "Part 1 is dynamic, adrenalised, visceral and takes place on the road," director David Yates told Total Film last year. "It's a refugee story about three kids cut off from everything they know and everybody they love, being pursued relentlessly by people who want to murder them." According to Yates, Part 2 will be a different beast again: "A big opera, a great big epic, with huge battles." "How do you make them one but two separate and distinct stories?' ponders Yates. "Do you break it with a moment of suspense or one of resolution?" Meanwhile, Emma Watson talked about how the absence of Hogwarts affects the shooting of the films: "I feel like I'm on a different film," Watson confirms. "The others have this structure. You know, we come into the Great Hall and there's the opening talk. And that's gone." Thanks to Snitch Seeker for the transcription! |

Even The Stars Don't Get Perfect Holidays
Posted by Tina on 16 Jan 2010 | Submit News
Categories: News , Rupert Grint Everyone assumes that stars would have perfect holidays, but they might just have similar situations as us. Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), was interviewed by the UK Telegraph about his experiences during his holidays from the good and the bad. What’s been your best holiday? We went to the Isle of Wight as a family, three summers in a row. I’m the eldest of five children, but only James, now 19, and Georgina, now 16, were around then. We had a great time as there was so much to do there. We got up to a lot of mischief, exploring the caves and beaches. Our favourite attraction was a theme park called Blackgang Chine, which was set in a Victorian mansion and its estate grounds. It had ghosts and goblins, a Wild West section and a small train ride. You couldn’t ask for a better holiday for a kid. What do you need for a perfect holiday? Being ginger and pale-skinned, I don’t really get a tan, so sitting on the beach doesn’t do it for me. I like activity-based holidays where I’m not going to fry, which is why I’ve really got into rally car driving my brother James is an aspiring driver. I recently went on holiday to Blackpool with Oliver Phelps, who plays one of the Weasley twins. We both play golf I’ve got a handicap of 13, which is not bad and there’s a really good golf course in the area. I think it was quite surreal for people to see two Harry Potter actors walking down the promenade they kept stopping dead in their tracks to do a double take. What do you always take with you? I can’t live without my iPhone it comes everywhere with me. It’s got so many applications on it it practically runs my life. And a couple of my favourite T-shirts. Apart from that, I’m a pretty light traveller. What’s your best piece of travel advice? Always check your room thoroughly before you leave. Wherever I go, I always leave something behind. I’ve left suits, phones and even my wallet because I always spread my stuff about. I need someone to do a security sweep after me. Where do you want to go next? Thailand would be cool, but I’m not sure how sensible that would be given my hair and skin tone. I’ve not done the United States properly, even though we go there a lot, because we don’t have much free time, so I’d like the chance to wander around, shop and visit the sights without having to constantly check my diary for the day. What was your worst holiday? Even if things aren’t going as well as I’d hoped, I always try to make the most if it. Probably the worst holiday was a couple of summers ago in Italy, when it stormed the entire time. We were staying at a really posh villa with antiques and were given a long list of rules to follow, so it was like being in a museum exhibit not much fun after we’d been cooped up for several days driving. We were supposed to be there for two weeks, but we cut it short and went to Switzerland, where the weather was much better. And your worst experience on holiday? The family had decided to drive in convoy to Italy from England on the way to our ill-fated Lake Como trip. I think the entire trip was cursed from the start. I was in traffic in my Range Rover behind Dad’s and crashed straight into the back of his. Once that was sorted, we continued on our way through the steep roads through the Swiss Alps, as we’d wanted to enjoy the scenery en route. Unfortunately, just when we’d reached the top of one of the remotest passes, Dad’s car broke down. We probably needed a holiday after that holiday. What’s the biggest packing mistake you’ve made? I was recently visiting Paris and went to unload the car, only to picture my haphazardly packed bag still sitting on my bed at home. I’d entirely forgotten to put it in the car. I had to go buy an entire holiday wardrobe, and it wasn’t cheap. What do you avoid on holiday? Flash celebrity-type destinations in the sun. I’m not going away to be seen and I’m quite softly spoken and laid-back, so I like to blend in. Being with my friends or my family is the most important thing. Is there anything you hate about holidays? Airports because they’re noisy and stressful. Plus it’s like being stuck in a giant fishbowl with no escape as people are always looking at me. Once I’m on the plane, I can relax. Read more of the article here. |

I'm dressed up as everyone else and they're dressing up as me, and, well, it's very confusing." It also mentions about director David Yates, who says he "watched the first assembly of Part One just last week, and the most interesting dynamic is that you're these three characters we know quite well away from the comfort zone of Hogwarts. And you really can't underestimate the odd power of that." ![]() See more of the preview here. Or see more here... Read more... |

New Interview: Bill Nighy
Posted by Jennifer on 22 Dec 2009 | Submit News
Categories: News , Movie 7 UK newspaper The Daily Record recently interviewed actor Bill Nighy, best known for portraying Davy Jones in Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and slated to play Rufus Scrimgeour, Fudge's replacement as Minister of Magic, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Within an interview that discussed his chronic stage fright and his other recent roles (including Billy Mack in Love Actually, a vampire in the Underworld series, and the voiceover for Animal Planet show "Meerkat Manor"), he said, "Scrimgeour is a tragic figure. He knows what's coming. It's a very moving thing to play. He's also very powerful and has had a very complicated progress to the top. And he has an interesting relationship with Harry, who views him initially with contempt. But then it's softened by subsequent events. There's a scene where he delivers Dumbledore's legacy to the three children. He gives them all the things Dumbledore has left them, and that's when it's indicated he may not be around for much longer." These remarks may indicate that Scrimgeour will have a much larger role in the film version of Deathly Hallows than the book gave him. Read the rest of the article here. |

Tom Felton describes Dan's character as "battered and abused and scarred"
Posted by Tina on 12 Dec 2009 | Submit News
Categories: News , Movie 6 , Movie 7 , Tom Felton The promotion of the Half-Blood Prince DVD include a feature, published recently, of Tom Felton in a last-minute interview with the The Wall Street Journal during a recent trip to the US. Asked about actor Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Tom said, "I can’t reveal too much, or I’ll get myself in trouble, but I can say that we’ve been shooting some of the very last scenes from the very last film. Though we’re not going to be able to see it for another two years, which is crazy. But it’s very moving, because this is what we’ve been working toward for the last 10 years. Daniel is the figurehead of the series, so when we see him battered and abused and scarred on set, you get all emotional." Later in the interview, Tom comments on the recent news of nude scenes in Deathly Hallows: "I’ve seen some pretty horrific… no, I’m kidding. I haven’t seen any pictures usually they do artist’s impressions to show us, but I haven’t seen anything yet. I haven’t talked to Dan about it, actually. I may have to have a word. I’m sure it will be awkward for them. The one thing to keep in find [sic] is that [the Potter series] are adult books. Half the characters die by the end, and often in grisly ways. Teenagers are about sex, drugs and rock & roll, and David’s very keen to keep the films true to what these kids would be going through in real life; he’s not censoring anything that doesn’t need to be censored. The idea of this alluring Hermione is great, because [the character] is so unalluring; it’ll be great to switch it up. And I can’t say exactly, but I look forward to what happens." See more of the interview here. |

Blu-Ray Event; Daniel Radcliffe Interview
Posted by Jennifer on 12 Dec 2009 | Submit News
Categories: News , Movie 6 Fans who own a Blue-Ray player were able to tune in to a live webcast with actor Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and producer David Barron this afternoon during the Half-Blood Prince Blu-ray Live community event. For those who have regular DVD players or missed the event, the screening will be shown on list: Dan mentioned a rule he and Rupert shared, in that if they have a birthday and aren't on set for it, they won't receive a present. On Alan Rickman, David said he loved his eyebrows, while Dan loves his dry sense of humour. On Bellatrix: Dan thinks Bella is child-like and also evil; David said that you look in her eyes and she feels a little bit out of control. Dan stated that he's become a bit like Helena Bonham Carter's personal assistant on the set of Deathly Hallows, in that he's constantly picking up after her. Tom Felton began filming Deathly Hallows at the end of the summer; he and Dan became good friends through Tom's girlfriend, Jade, who is one of Dan's best friends. Dan was asked if he would consider joining Twitter, but he said no. However, he does like the idea of it and interacting with fans. He said that being able to convey a thought in 140 characte Dan noted that while Slughorn and Ron are rather outgoing characters on-screen, Jim Broadbent and Rupert Grint, respectively, are shy off-screen. rs or less would be a challenge for him. On Deathly Hallows filming, Barron said that filming will end around late-spring early-summer, then there's the dubbing stage, and post-production. They will be doing work on it for another year, at least. There are plans for Leavesden after the movies are done. Dan said that he does have a say in Harry's costuming, in that his clothes should "look good, but look forgettable," given his origins. As the movies go on, the kids are seen less and less in their Hogwarts robes. On wearing Muggle clothes in the series, as they got older, it paralleled to the fact that Muggle students around 16-17 in schools wear regular clothes and not uniforms. Plus, it shows them as more adult-like, according to Dan. On Ron and Lavender's kiss, Dan said he lost all professionalism that day and teased and joked with Rupert all day. He said that Matthew Lewis teased him on the Order of the Phoenix set about Harry and Cho's kiss, so it was time for revenge. On British actors they couldn't get into the films and wanted to, they list: Judi Dench, Helen Mirren, Daniel Craig, Juliet Stevenson, Ricky Gervais. Dan and David confirmed that the five actors, Dan, Rupert, Bonnie, Emma, and Tom, will play their adult selves in the epilogue. Dan mentioned that when he found out Richard Harris, the original actor who played Albus Dumbeldore, died, he just cried and cried. He also remembered having rather enjoyed filming the scenes with Fawkes in Dumbledore's office from Chamber of Secrets, because it kept speaking back to him. Dan said that he's broken about seven wands on set; Devon Murray about eight; but David Thewlis holds the record at about 12. David pointed out that if Hagrid hadn't been a lonely outsider like Harry, he wouldn't have befriended Aragog, and from that slippery slope, he would not have attended the funeral, and not have gotten the memory from Slughorn (therefore never knowing the true reason behind Voldemort's immortality). Dumbledore's funeral will NOT be in Deathly Hallows, even if it wasn't in Half-Blood Prince. It was discussed between the Davids and Steve Kloves, but they felt it was just too many endings for the film. They tried hard to keep it in, but felt the balance was wrong, according to Barron. We will update you when the full recording becomes available. |

Bonnie Wright on HBP, kissing Harry, future career
Posted by Jennifer on 12 Dec 2009 | Submit News
Categories: News , Movie 6 UK paper The Daily Mail published a new interview with actress Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley). In addition to new pictures of Bonnie from a recent photoshoot, the article includes lots of new information about the films. Bonnie says of the kiss she and Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) share in HBP, "The way it was done was very romantic. Daniel and I have always been good friends, which I think worked in our favour. It’s the only love scene I’ve filmed, but I imagine if you had to do one with some random person that you had no relationship with, it would feel very strange. It makes the on-screen relationship make more sense this idea that we’ve known each other, and in a sense grown up together, off-screen as well as on. Dan is so energetic and really good fun, and the way he works is extremely professional. ... My character initiates the kiss, which is great because it gives this power to girls and shows that it’s OK to be the one who makes the approach." Asked about Ginny's role in the series, Bonnie said, "Well, it’s hard to know if what she’s [J. K. Rowling] seen on the screen has influenced the storyline,’ she says modestly, ‘but I’m thrilled that I’ve been given the chance to sink my teeth in and show what I can do. I felt, in the last one, as though I really got to create something worthwhile." Of the casting process, Bonnie recalled how her older brother Lewis had first suggested the part. "He’d read the first two books and said, 'You really remind me of Ginny.' I was only nine at the time and didn’t know who any of the characters were, but I read the first one and was hooked. When my mum came home from work, I said, 'Please, please can you get me an audition for Harry Potter?' ... To begin with, we weren’t even acting we were just being ourselves. Most of us hadn’t acted before; we were hired because we had the right image. We’ve grown up together and we are like a big family. Everyone is lovely, and I think we’re all very inquisitive. When we come back to set after a break in filming, it is like coming back to school." The interview was primarily about Bonnie's involvement with Made-By, a non-profit labeling initiative that ensures clothes are made sustainably and ethically. She said, "I think many people think of ethical fashion as a bit kooky-looking, but the great thing about Made-By is that it shows that it can be really on-trend and use gorgeous materials. So many people are doing these quick-fix ethical ideas like one T-shirt made from organic cotton, but with Made-By you’ve got to commit to the process through and through, which is the only thing that’s going to break the cycle of cheap labour and unsustainable materials. In my family we’ve always been into ethical stuff and recycling. I think it’s very important for the awareness to begin at a young age, so that it sets in and becomes a habit. It’s been great to find something I can be a part of that joins my interests in fashion and sustainability, and I’m hoping that as a younger spokeswoman I can encourage my generation to embrace this idea." Bonnie goes on to discuss much more, including her relationship with Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), her choice to go to college, and her potential future in acting. This is what she mentioned about her character."Harry Melling, the young man who plays my son in Mother Courage, plays my son in Potter (they are Petunia and Dudley Dursley respectively), and we're the poor relations. We never do any magic, we have it done to us. The odd thing is leaving the set and to see 3,000 people march on: 1,000 children, 1,000 parents and 1,000 minders. Yates Talks More About Radcliffe Being Bare In Deathly Hallows
Posted by Tina on 02 Dec 2009 | Submit News
Categories: News , Movie 7 , Dan Radcliffe , Interviews A few days ago we mentioned an interview about Dan Radcliffe would be bare for The Silver Doe scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Now there is a new interview with Deathly Hallows director David Yates, that was posted a couple weeks ago by LaVibra.com. This interview has more comments about Dan's nude scenes from Yates even revealing two scenes in the movie. The article is originally in Spanish, but with Google translator you are able to see a rough translation of what the article is in English. The translation is pretty close to the original but not exact. Quotations below are the correct translation. "Well, Dan (Radcliffe) has appeared nude in the past, but there are a couple of scenes in the new film where he will undress, but we're still thinking about how we present it," said Yates. Yates adds, "It's a fascinating scene in which Harry and Ron (Rupert Grint) are trying to kill a Horcrux (a magical creature). He tries to defend himself and creates an image of Voldemort's soul, and there are a series of images between which are Harry and Hermione (Emma Watson) kissing and embracing. And we will create something that feels very sexy and very intriguing to bring about reaction of Rupert [sic](who Hermione is in love)." According to the article, Radcliffe will also appear bare in a scene "where the young wizard is about to die and be reunited with the soul of Professor Dumbledore in a season London Underground." "There is another scene in Kings Cross station (St Pancras), where Harry almost dies and sees Dumbledore. In that scene will also be naked," Yates said. Close to the end of the interview, Yates mentions about his favorite scene being the new scene they have just shot for Deathly Hallows that isn't included in the book. "It's very difficult to find a favorite scene, but something we just did is a part of the movie truly is priceless. It's a part where Hermione and Harry dance together and not in the book, is something we created for the film and is actually very tender and a very nice and respectful reveal some secrets from each other while dancing. Deathly Hallows; Top Book of the Decade
Posted by Simone on 24 Nov 2009 | Submit News
Categories: News , Book 7 , Book Awards The Telegraph, a UK newspaper publication, has compiled various lists of books, movies, etc that have defined this decade. Their list of the top 100 books that defined this decade is topped by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The article says, and I quote: "If you don’t know what a Muggle is by now, you’re either Rip van Winkle or enormously stubborn. This is the seventh and final instalment in Rowling’s record-breaking series about Harry Potter, the world’s most famous lightning-scarred boy wizard and his tribulations with Lord Voldemort. We’ve seen Harry grow from a spindly, messy-haired 11-year-old into a heroic young adult. Children have grown up with him, finding in his battles metaphors for their own. This volume alone sold 15 million copies in the first 24 hours after it was published. Whether wickedly skewering suburbia, or bringing Harry, Ron and Hermione into mortal danger, Rowling is never less than absorbing. Some may sneer at her books, but they are triumphant sagas about the defeat of evil that tap into our basic hunger for stories. Most importantly, she makes reading a 700-page book seem easy. This one even has a quotation from Aeschylus as its epigraph. It stands as a cornerstone of the decade, a melding of high and low culture that appeals to all ages and nations." |

Does 'The Daily Prophet' effect Muggle Newspapers? Baylor University Conducts Study
Posted by Tina on 29 Jul 2009 | Submit News
Categories: News , Book 1 , Book 2 , Book 3 , Book 4 , Book 5 , Book 6 Baylor University has written an article on 'Harry Potter' series role on newspapers and journalism. They mention how the books give a negative representation of journalism as "corrupt, deceptive and an unattractive career choice." Which they believe that may impact children's idea of journalism, according to the Baylor University researchers. "The books present an unnecessarily pessimistic view of journalism today," says Dr. Amanda Sturgill, senior lecturer in journalism at Baylor and one of the study co-authors. "Since literature can play an important role in helping children learn and possibly empathize with situations experienced by the characters, the potential for influence on journalism is strong." A study first published in 2008 American Communications Journal, She and co-authors Jessica Winney of the University of Houston-Clear Lake and Tina Libhart of Baylor, analyzed quotes from the first six books that made any mention of the media, including newspapers, magazines, radio and textbooks. These researchers looked into "Government Control of Journalism," "Misleading Journalism," and "Unethical Means of Gathering Information." The study and the article portrays that the books show something that isn't the way it is in "real world." "In no situations was there recourse on The Daily Prophet or the Ministry of Magic for what was published," Sturgill says. "This could convey the message to young readers that there are no ill effects of poor journalism in the real world." The study, the article explains, also looks into the power and influence of children's literature. "While the Harry Potter books are valued for their ability to entertain and engage readers, children are reading about things they may not experience," Sturgill says. "A lot of exposure to careers and appropriate social behaviors can come through children's literature. The implications of the negative portrayal of journalism are quite broad when one considers the popularity of the series." It's very unlikely that Rita Skeeter and the Daily Prophet can really add more to the newspaper problems right now. Actually might show a mirror image of what is really going on. What do the fans think? Does it effect the declining credibility of newspapers and journalism? |

Does 'Harry Potter' Promote Drinking?
Posted by Tina on 27 Jul 2009 | Submit News
Categories: News , Book 6 , Movie 6 When reading the series, did you ever feel like the books were promoting drinking alcohol? Was the movie promoting it? Well, NY Times thinks so. They talk about it being shown through out the film with Hermione acting "tipsy", Neville serving drinks, Ron sipping "mead" and Harry apparently "partying" with the professors.According to NY Times, "In scene after scene, the young wizards and their adult professors are seen sipping, gulping and pouring various forms of alcohol to calm their nerves, fortify their courage or comfort their sorrows." Also that apparently Harry, Ron and Hermione are "enjoying new freedoms as 16-year-old students at the mythical boarding school Hogwarts, including unchaperoned trips to a pub in the nearby town of Hogsmeade." They mention that teenage drinking is taken to a "new level" in this film compared to the others. "In one scene, Harry, Ron and Hermione order butterbeers at the pub, and Hermione ends up with a frothy mustache. While it’s never been entirely clear whether butterbeer is alcoholic, it seems to have an effect on the normally uptight Hermione, who acts tipsy walking home as she throws her arms around the boys." They talk to a few mothers that are worried and some alcohol educators but the feeling that this article is really showing another angle. It's trying to show that the movies and the books are showing a bad example to kids and the article is trying to teach parents to show them that drinking is wrong. As Accio-Potter condemns drinking and alcohol to excess. This article might be going to extremes on the issue. For example, in Europe they don't go to extremes as it's usually is done in America. There's a usual drink with dinner but not too much. But here it's a extreme issue for many teens actually get drunk and drive. Another example, when kids are reading the books they think butterbeer is like rootbeer but it's more magical and has butter as well. It's an important issue to think about but it's a movie and a series of books. Just enjoy them without bringing issues to them. Otherwise there will be more banning of the books and movies more than ever. According to target="_blank">NY Times, Warner Brothers said the drinking scenes were “open to different interpretations.” “One of our main objectives in bringing the Harry Potter films to the screen has been to remain as faithful to their original source material as created by J. K Rowling,” the company wrote in an e-mail message, adding that the wizarding world “should not be held to the same standards as the real world.” They also mention how a spokesman for Ms. Rowling said she was not available to comment. What do they expect, Jo to stop what she's doing and talk to them right away about the issue? NY Times also talked to Alison Turner, a British expatriate who owns Signature Bites, an Internet brownie business based in Florida, said that while watching the movie with her 14-year-old stepdaughter, she did find herself briefly musing about the alcoholic properties of butterbeer. But she said their post-movie conversation focused on broken hearts and unrequited love. “I think the alcohol angle washed over me because of the magical context of the film this isn’t a real school, real teachers or real students so it’s almost like the drinking isn’t real,” she said. “I wonder how many kids even know what mead is.” So what do you think fans? Does it promote or does it help their cause to stop teenage drinking? |

Harry Potter Theme Park: Details Emerge "Forbidden Journey" ride
Posted by Tina on 09 Jan 2010 | Submit News
Categories: News , Theme Park Details have emerged about the "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey” ride at Univeral’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park in Orlando. According to Screamscape, "the ride system inside Hogwarts Castle is installed and functional, however all of the scenery and special effects still need to be installed, programmed and tested extensively before we’ll see the ride open." What's interesting is that they reveal that the "ride experience will begin and end with an interesting little effect that will transport you through the use of the Floo Network, a giant fireplace and green flames.” Just like snow showing up at the park, it's something that might be hard to imagine though muggle terms. Yet it looks like they have found ways to do both the snow and the Floo Network for the park. We will see how that works when fans start going to the park (it opens this summer). Earlier we've heard about the ride having carts that go through the castle where they show parts of Harry's world. On the Half-Blood DVD, Dan Radcliffe described the ride as capturing all the chaotic parts of Harry’s life. |

Coming This Month: New Details on 'Wizarding World of Harry Potter' Theme Park
Posted by Tina on 03 Sep 2009 | Submit News
Categories: News , Theme Park Some good news today! In a few weeks, on September 15, fans will learn more about the theme park that is currently under construction in Florida. The Orlando Sentinel reports, "The resort has begun sending out invitations for a Sept. 15 webcast promising a "first-ever glimpse" at the Wizarding World, which is supposed to open sometime during the first half of 2010." A second article from The Orlando Sentinel mentions that the event will announce more about the theme park, and is scheduled to occur two days after the Walt Disney Co. concludes a fan convention in Anaheim, California. Universal has said little about the theme park but some details have been leaked. "The 20-acre "theme park within a theme park" in Islands of Adventure is to be anchored by the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy. The 15-story castle will house the themed area's signature attraction -- which, according to people familiar with the project, will feature a "robocoaster" ride system in which guests sit in seats suspended from a robotic arm that swivels in multiple directions as it advances along a track." "The name of the ride is thought to be "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey," based on U.S. trademark applications filed earlier this year. The Wizarding World will also include Hogsmeade Village, with shops and taverns from the novels selling items such as magic wands and serving treats such as chocolate frogs and butterbeer." Look forward to coverage of this interesting event on Sept. 15th. |

The Future Can Be A Bit Foggy Even For The HP Theme Park
Posted by Tina on 22 Aug 2009 | Submit News
Categories: News , Theme Park Just another update on the process of Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park, which is under construction now in Florida. Universal Orlando has filed more construction notices involving two new companies, The Orlando Sentinel reports. The first company is FogScreen Inc., a finnish company which will provide special fog effects, the article discribes it similar to the Davy Jones effect in the beginning of Walt Disney World's Pirates of the Caribbean ride. According to the article, "the company specializes in creating nebulous, walk-through fog banks -- made out of ultrasonic waves and tap water -- on which images and videos can be projected." The article doesn't mention what the fog effect will be used for in the park, but it's not the only effect being use in the park. Remember the park mentioned earlier that they would use a company to provide fake snow? Will there be other machines brought in for other effects in the park? We'll see. The other notice mentions about a Orlando-based theme-park-design company, Austin 2 Paris Inc. who they will be using as well for the park. Their work will be for all the ""automata" -- the plural of automaton, which is a type of robot." So there might be a possibility of automated robotic arms for one of the rides. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park attraction continues construction at Universal Orlando, which has been scheduled to open Spring, 2010. |
